What’s the world’s craziest car collection?

What’s the world’s craziest car collection?

Whilst we all like to appreciate the occasional Porsche or Ferrari roaring along the road, here we'll give you a glimpse into the garages (or airport hangars) of some of the most ostentatious and enviable car collections in the world. From classic to muscle cars, a one of a kind 24k gold Rolls Royce to a 249 mph McLaren P1, each car collection in the list has its own unique flavour. Although one thing's consistent – bling.

The biggest car collection: Sultan of Brunei

Being one of the richest royals in the world, it's only right that he has a car collection to match. The Sultan of Brunei's car collection is estimated to be worth $4 billion…..yes, with a 'B'! There are over 600 Rolls Royces, 400 Ferraris, 380 Bentleys and 134 Koenigseggs….we could go on. However, the sad truth is that this car collection has reportedly been left to rot, a tropical island isn't exactly the best place to store a 7,000 strong car collection.

The ridiculous and rare 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR

Top 3 Cars:

2006 Ferrari FXX – Based on the street-legal Enzo, this super sports car was produced between 2005 – 2007 and was limited to only 30 models.

1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR – This beast of a car was built by the AMG division of Mercedes. There are only 24 other cars like this around the world churning a cosy 720 bhp!

1991 Italdesign BMW Nazca M12 – From the same styling house that brought us the Lotus Espirit and Lancia Delta, they also gave us the BMW M12. However, you will not see this car on the road as it's actually a concept car turned production car that was commissioned solely for the Sultan of Brunei.

The petrolhead's car collection: Jay Leno

Famously known as the host of NBC's 'The Tonight Show,' Jay is actually one of the most enthusiastic car collectors in the world, believing a car collection should be used and not just left to collect dust. Jay has a very unique car collection that ranges from 100 year old electric cars to a 1,000 horsepower 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado.

Top 3 Cars:

2001 Blastolene Special "Crystal Tank Car" – This 5 tonne beast of a car features a continental – designed engine made for a 120,000 pound M47 Patton Tank, bringing the horsepower to a staggering 1600 bhp! The aluminium body designed by a glass artist gives it the nickname of the 'crystal tank car.'

1963 Chrysler Turbine Car – This car was way ahead of its time back in the 1960s being powered by a smooth gas turbine engine. What makes this car even more special is that it can be fueled from anything ranging from salad oil to jet fuel. Makes filling up that bit easier.

1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing – This car was fully restored after being kept in a storage container in the middle of the Californian desert. With the original paint job still intact, this car is still a looker.

The artist's car collection: Ralph Lauren

Much like the man himself, his exquisite car collection more resembles pieces of fine art than motors. The cars date back to 1929 and are focused more on the European car designers such as Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Mercedes. But he hasn't neglected the new age of supercars, as he also owns 'The Holy Trinity' twice over, a LaFerrari, 2 x Porsche 918s and 2 x McLaren P1s.

Ralph Lauren's 1937 Bugatti Type 57SC, just one of his vintage Bugattis.

Top 3 Cars:

1938 Bugatti 57SC Atlantic Coupe – Arguably one of the most beautiful cars ever made, this car was expertly crafted by Jean Bugatti and topped out at 200kph.

1938 Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia 8C 2900 – One of only 4 cars made, this racing car was restored back to its original 1938 configuration. You don't see Alfa Romeo's like this anymore.

1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa – This stunning Ferrari takes its name from the red camshaft covers which hides is V12 3 liter engine. This particular Ferrari also is a retired champion, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours race in 1958, 1960 and 1961.
