Care And Maintenance Tips For RVs

Deep cycle batteries have a limited lifespan of approximately 3 to 5 years. You should periodically check them to make sure they are still working well and that they don't need to be replaced.

Care And Maintenance Tips For RVs

Owning an RV can be a lot of fun. If you want to protect your investment, however, it is important to make sure that you properly care for it. You should always pay attention to the manufacturer's guidelines to ensure that you are taking all of the necessary steps to keep your RV in great shape. In most situations, the best option is to take your RV to a certified technician anytime it needs routine maintenance.

Like all vehicles, RVs require regular oil changes. Oil filters can also become dirty and clogged, which is why they periodically need to be replaced. Both of these tasks can go a long way toward keeping your engine in good working condition. If you fail to keep up with regular maintenance, your engine could seize up, costing you thousands of dollars to repair. The owner's manual for your RV should have recommendations for how often you change your oil. Most experts recommend oil changes every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

You should also make sure that the generator that powers your RV is well-maintained. Again, this involves making any necessary oil or filter changes. This is another essential task that could wind up costing you thousands of dollars if you fail to do it. It is also a good idea to periodically start your generator even if your RV is in storage. Otherwise, the generator can develop a dirty carburetor - very common in self build motorhomes according to Cleangreencars

Regularly replacing the hydraulic, coolant, fuel, and air filters for your RV is another important task. Not only can dirty filters decrease fuel efficiency but they could also cause problems with your vehicle's hydraulic system or cooling system.

Preventing leaks is essential. The best way to go about this is by making sure that you inspect the roof of your RV twice a year. Any water that gets inside can cause a significant amount of damage.

It goes without saying that you need to make sure that your brakes are in good working order. From a safety standpoint, being able to stop quickly is essential. Maintaining your brakes is a lot less expensive than waiting until there is a problem.

Be sure to purchase and use toilet paper that is specifically designed for RV use. This can help ensure that the waste management system of your RV continues operating the way it was designed to.

RVs with rubber roofs require ongoing treatment. You should consider resealing your roof annually. Check it for leaks, holes, or other problems at least two times each year.

Make sure you have adequate tire pressure and that the lug nuts are properly tightened any time you head out on the road.

Deep cycle batteries have a limited lifespan of approximately 3 to 5 years. You should periodically check them to make sure they are still working well and that they don't need to be replaced.

When storing your RV for the winter, remove the battery and put it in storage in an area that is climate controlled. Otherwise, the battery may freeze and become damaged if the temperature drops too low.
